1. How do I know if my fire extinguisher(s) needs service?

Answer: First look at the gauge. If the arrow is not in the green then it needs service.

If it's in the green, then check the tag. There will be a hole punched on a month and another on a year. That month and year is the date of the extinguisher's last service. It is due for service one year from that date. If it does not have a tag, it needs service.

2. How often do my fire extinguishers need service?

Fire Extinguishers require service once a year. If they are serviced in October 2013, then they are due for their annual maintenance in October 2014. On November 1, 2014 they would become out of date.
